Let us introduce you to our retreat facilitators serving this summer…
Pam and Chip Hanes been married for 45 years and have 5 children and 12 grandchildren. They have been facilitating married couple groups at Outback events and at the JH Ranch for the last 7 years.
They emphasize that the greatest thing a couple can bring into a marriage relationship to guarantee success is a dynamic relationship with the Holy Spirit. There are many wonderful teachings and principles that are helpful but for them to be maximally effective it is important to have an outside source of strength and power.
Dr. David and Terri Sumlin are co-founders of Marriage Life Ministries and authors of the Marriage Innovators Workshop®, Intimacy of Marriage®, and Oneness of Marriage®. The Sumlin’s unique approach to marital enrichment is built upon an adventure-based, research proved and biblically driven model that helps couples derive behavioral transformation and sustained learning.
They’ve both served as international marriage educators, retreat leaders, pastoral counselors, conference speakers and have also lead marital enrichment programs for JH Ranch, JH Outback and Chick-fil-A’s WinShape Marriage Adventures.
Rae and Woody Faulk been married for 37 years and have 3 adult daughters. Rae is a women’s ministry leader, a former high school teacher, and a vocalist. Woody has spent almost 40 years in the hospitality industry and now spends his professional time helping a variety of for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. He serves on several boards, including the JH Adventures Board of Directors.
They founded Ember Marriage Retreats 4 years ago for the purpose of helping couples take the next step in growing their marriages. Just as the most blazing fire will eventually be reduced to an ember, all marriages need rekindling to build, or even restore, the flame that started years ago.
Their teaching approach is presenting familiar, but often ignored, Biblical relational truths in fresh and relevant ways through examples and exercises designed to challenge your personal paradigms about your own marriage.
Fred and Susan have been involved with JH Ministries for over ten years and have been involved with JH Outback Houston since its inception in 2011. Fred and Susan have had the privilege of both attending and leading husband/wife weeks at Scott River Lodge and Outback. Fred serves as Chairman of the JH Adventures Board of Directors. Fred and Susan are passionate about the transforming work God does through JH and its focus on family and marriage.
The Caldwell’s lead an intimate 5-night week that focuses on strengthening each person’s vertical relationship with God and improving the ability to meet your spouse’s needs. The content includes “Relational Needs,” developed by David Ferguson, as a resource in discovering and practicing healthy habits to serve each spouse’s unique needs. Each couple will receive tools that will help grow their relationship with God, which can thereby improve the marriage relationship.
The Caldwell’s focus on the week being fun, interactive, restful, and a powerful marriage catalyst.
In September, we offer a more intimate approach to our husband and wife programs, focusing on a particular theme. These weeks are led by specific facilitators that have expertise in each of these areas, plus enjoy all of our on-property adventures during these 5-night, all-inclusive programs.
The Best Is
Yet To Come
with one another
when it’s just…
What happens now that your children are grown and out of the house? Referring to this important transition as the empty nest syndrome does it a disservice as it brings about feelings of loss and sadness. If we have done our job well our children should want to leave home and begin their own God Purpose.
It is a time to celebrate, so come spend a week rediscovering and re-focusing on the beauty and uniqueness of relationship with your spouse. Our time will be filled with fun couples’ activities designed to renew passion and rediscover relationship. Topics will include How to Embrace this New Stage of Life – the Joys and Challenges; How to Communicate with Your Adult Children; Leaving a Legacy Worth Passing On; The Blessing and Responsibilities of Grandparenting; and much more.
Our focus will be on your hopes and dreams, forgotten or yet to be discovered interests, your God given passions, and re-discovering passion with your spouse.
Mack and Janice just celebrated their 40th year of marriage! They have been involved in marriage ministry for 20 years as facilitators of Dynamic Marriage. Mack, director of Outback International of the JH Ranch, began with the organization in January of 2003. He is part of the Ranch leadership team, the chief generosity officer, and is one of the speakers for the Ranch’s weekly summer programs. Janice, a former high school teacher, joins Mack in ministry with the JH Ranch emphasis on Journey of Parenting as a speaker and encourager to parents in their changing role from “Cop to Coach”.

Couples will enjoy the beauty of God’s creation, cutoff from the pace of ministry and family. They will be treated to first-class accommodations while at Scott River Lodge. They will be given time to enjoy alone, participate in fun and challenging adventures, and reflect upon their marriage. All while being served by world-class staff and facilitators.
Chris and Jennifer have celebrated 22 years of marriage and are in their 7th year of facilitating at the Scott River Lodge. By God’s grace the Lord has rescued them from pornography addiction, emotional infidelity, and financial ruin. This has stirred in them an authentic passion and commitment to walk with couples in all stages of life; pointing them to Jesus Christ and God’s design for marriage. Over the past decade they have been privileged to have started marriage ministries, taught marriage classes, speak at couple’s events, and counseled hundreds of couples. They employ a collaborative learning style that incorporates the truth of scripture and shared experiences to connect people to God and each other. Their heart is to see pastors experience rest and refreshment and renewed commitment to their marriages and ministries.
